I had not visited the sett for a long time, and was unsure of when the badgers would emerge. As the wood was some distance from the nearest road, it was relatively undisturbed, and its badgers could be expected to come up early.
Sure enough, a few minutes after I arrived, the first badger came straight out and immediately started to scratch himself thoroughly. A few minutes later, it was joined by another, and they groomed each other in companionable ease as the wood darkened.
